5 Things I’ve Learned from Living with Cats!
Share
I’ve been a dog person most of my life; back home, my Jack Russell Terrier, Podge, has been part of the family for 9 years and still lives with my parents.
But when I moved abroad, my partner and I adopted two amazing cats—Luna & Leo.
Living with them has taught us some unexpected lessons, and I thought I’d share a few here. Maybe you’ll relate, or maybe it’ll make you smile 🐾
1. Trust is earned—slowly.
With cats, love isn’t automatic. It takes time. Earning that trust has been one of the most rewarding things I've experienced—it makes every purr and cuddle feel deeply meaningful.
2. Independence doesn’t mean distance.
Luna and Leo don’t always need to be in our laps—but they’re never far. They show affection in their own way: a quiet sit nearby, a little tail flick, or just following us from room to room.
3. Joy can be simple.
A paper bag, a shoelace, a sunbeam on the floor—cats find happiness in the tiniest things. They remind us to slow down and appreciate the little joys in everyday life.
4. Respecting space can bring you closer.
Cats need space. They’ve taught me not to take it personally and instead let the bond grow naturally. Funny enough, the more space we give them, the more they seek us out.
5. Love doesn’t look the same for everyone.
Podge (my Dog) was a ball of energy, always ready for play. Luna and Leo are more reserved. But their quiet loyalty has shown me that love isn’t always loud—it just is, in its own beautiful way.
